Description
The Hornady Dangerous Game load is centerfire rifle ammunition for hunting dangerous and large game. Chambered in 450-400 Nitro Express 3″, also known as 400 Jeffery, it carries a 400 gr DGX Bonded expanding flat-nose bullet and is designed to regulate properly in double rifles.
The DGX Bonded projectile uses a copper-clad steel jacket bonded to a lead core. This construction resists jacket-and-core separation after high-energy contact with hard material such as bone. Its controlled-expansion design is intended to reach approximately 1.5 to 2 times its original diameter while supporting deep penetration and high weight retention. The bullet profile corresponds to Hornady’s matching DGS solid projectile.
Published performance from a 24″ test barrel is Muzzle Velocity: 2050 fps and Muzzle Energy: 3732 ft lbs. The projectile has a 0.325 G1 ballistic coefficient and 0.340 sectional density. Each cartridge uses a reloadable brass case with Boxer-primed, non-corrosive centerfire ignition. This ammunition is not lead-free.
