The Hornady Precision Hunter load is factory-loaded centerfire rifle ammunition for hunting and target use. Chambered in 30-378 Wthby Mag, it pairs a 220 gr ELD-X hunting bullet with a brass case. Hornady lists a Muzzle Velocity of 3025 fps and Muzzle Energy of 4469 ft lbs for this load.
The ELD-X, or Extremely Low Drag-eXpanding, projectile features a Heat Shield polymer tip, secant-ogive profile, optimized boattail, concentric AMP jacket, and an InterLock ring. Published ballistic figures include a .650 G1 ballistic coefficient, .325 G7 ballistic coefficient, and .331 sectional density.
The tip is designed to initiate expansion on impact, while the thick jacket shank and InterLock ring help retain the core. Published performance figures state 50-60% weight retention during higher-velocity impacts and 85-90% weight retention at lower-velocity extended-range impacts. The manufacturer-designated game range covers medium game weighing 50-300 lb and large game weighing 300-1,500 lb.
