The Wolf Performance 9x39mm 278gr FMJ is a subsonic rifle cartridge built for shooters running suppressed 9x39mm platforms. Its heavy 278-grain full metal jacket projectile is loaded to subsonic velocity (approximately 950 fps), keeping the round below the sound barrier for dramatically reduced report when paired with a suppressor, while delivering deep penetration and excellent terminal performance on target.
Manufactured to Wolf’s well-known standard of affordable reliability, these rounds use non-corrosive Berdan primers and bi-metal (copper-washed steel) cases with a “9×39” headstamp. Note that the bi-metal cases are magnetic and are not reloadable. This is new-production ammunition.
The 9x39mm cartridge was developed from the 7.62x39mm case necked up to accept a heavy 9mm projectile, purpose-built for subsonic, suppressed use in platforms such as the AS Val, VSS Vintorez, and SR-3. With roughly double the bullet weight of standard 7.62x39mm, it offers substantial downrange energy at subsonic speeds.
